Has been some comments & announcements from Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails).
He’s been working on the new remix album for “Year Zero” – will be very interesting – I love the title of the record – Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D – or more simply “Year Zero Remixed” – using L337 speak.
Also – the other interesting aspect is the “record company” stand-point – after all the hoo-har from recent Sydney shows.
He had this statement on his “blog” – last week :
Just getting back into non-touring mode and LOTS going on. I’ll be making some big announcements soon…
I’m listening to the final mastered version of Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D as I write this and I’m very pleased with it – some cool stuff on it.
Oh yeah – Radiohead.
I’m sure you are all aware of what they are doing with the release of their new record (www.inrainbows.com).
I think it’s a great move and if you’re into them I highly suggest you support what they’re doing with this.
For those who hadn’t heard, the new RadioHead album is being sold online – with a “choose your own price” for the album.
That’s right ! You just “add to basket”, and then enter the price you want to pay.
Click “?” for more info – and it says the following :
Trent Reznor is obviously a supporter of this approach – having opening criticised his own record label for quite some time.
Well – it sounds like the troubles are all over !
This message was on the www.nin.com home page :
Hello everyone. I’ve waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label.
I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different – and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.
Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008.
Exciting times, indeed.

Wow – can’t wait to see what will transpire for the next Nine Inch Nails releases – and how he’ll prosper without record company support (or is that an oxymoron).
Like a red flag to a bull – will be something like the RadioHead approach, for sure – can’t wait !
