At the heart of any MOSS implementation is SQL Server 2005. With Service Pack 2 released recently (Feb 19), there are a number of new features and add-ons.
I’m currently setting up a VM to try out some MOSS functionality – and needed a new SQL Server installation – so planning to try SP2.
Firstly, click here to download SQL Server 2005 SP2.
Then, the door is opened to a number of add-on features – contained within the Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – February 2007.
Each can be downloaded separately. Here’s a “few” of them :
- ADOMD.NET is a Microsoft .NET Framework object model that enables software developers to create client-side applications that browse metadata and query data stored in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services.
Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0
- Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 is the latest version of the native XML processing stack.
Microsoft OLEDB Provider for DB2
Microsoft SQL Server Management Pack for MOM 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Command Line Query Utility
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services Client Components
Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
and – most interesting of all :
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Technologies allows you to take advantage of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2) report processing and management capabilities in SharePoint.
- The download provides a Report Viewer web part, web application pages, and support for using standard Windows SharePoint Services.
More soon – will update as the VM installation progresses.
