Alex - did you ever release a software product? One that you had to support? Even though the process is simple to most of us, there's a lot of time and money that go to putting it together, testing, and packaging. If this level of work is hard for someone, I wouldn't trust them to install SharePoint ;).

Nice list. I would have liked to have seen Ozzy in concert. I bet that would be killer. Was going to see the triple bill of FNM/Met/GnR but that was the Twin Cities show they cancelled in 1992. Makes me wish I had kept track of the shows/bands I've seen :<)

Echoing Paul's comment - this snippet of knowledge is very useful - this kind of demystifying is what the world needs more of. I've have been shrinking the size of some of my tech specs with great results. Thanks Chris.

Jeremy - I wonder if it's a PROXY thingo ? You could determine the IP address of the server - and just use that as the URL (maybe ?)

WONDERFUL TUTORIAL!!! This wasn't exactly the functionality I was looking for, but the customer has now been given this option and the option of a separate Shared Documents Library set to open in Explorer mode to accomplish the mission of distribution of DOTX type files.

My hope was that we could make a separate Shared Documents Library on the main site page that contained DOTX files that would open "normally" when clicked.

For those who still have Conrad's question, open a command window:

cd "\Program Files"
dir /s gacutil.exe

If not found and running 64-bit, then

cd "\Program Files (x86)"
dir /s gacutil.exe

If all else fails and you've got some time

cd \
dir /s gacutil.exe

So why not search from within Windows Explorer? I have often found it unable to find files on my machine that I KNOW exist. The command line method always finds them for me. Notepad++ is also good alternative.
