Yep – he likes cars

Cameron is amazing these days with his knowledge and recognition of cars.

One of his favorite activities is when we sit down to flip through the Herald-Sun cars-newspaper on a Friday – usually nabbed from the lunch room at work (he he).

One day, I’d worked on-site, and forgot to bring it home, and there were tears and wails of disappointment !

I thought I’d compile a list of the cars that he knows, and recognizes – usually from the symbol, but more often can pick it even if I cover the bonnet emblem !

Thanks in some part to CarPoint, from where I nabbed the list of car manufacturers – did a “View Source”, and grabbed the OPTION text/s from the underlying HTML.   </nerd>

Here’s the list of cars he can pick from a photo – or parked or driving on the street/carpark :

  • ALFA ROMEO
  • ASTON MARTIN
  • AUDI – also, recently saw the OOOO symbol on a pane of safety glass – and said “AUDI !”
  • BENTLEY
  • BMW – calls them as “Bee Emm”
  • CITROEN
  • FERRARI – and picks the difference between a Testarossa, F40 and Enzo
  • FIAT
  • FORD – loves Dad’s Ford Festiva, and can pick a Focus and Falcon – and loves the Ford GT (supercar)
  • HOLDEN – we have a Holden Commodore.  He’s zoomed about the house saying he’s a “Holden Commodore SS V8 ute” !
  • HONDA
  • HUMMER – saw one at Bunnings, and the next time we drove into the car park – he looked about and said “any Hummers here ?!?”
  • HYUNDAI
  • JAGUAR
  • KIA
  • LAMBORGHINI – can even spot (and correctly pronounce) Lamborghini Murcielago
  • LAND ROVER – well, Range Rover – same thing I guess
  • LEXUS – “that’s like the one you drove Dad, when you were in America !”
  • LOTUS
  • MASERATI
  • MAZDA
  • MERCEDES-BENZ = sometimes just “cedes”
  • MINI
  • MITSUBISHI – Grandad has a “bishi” – and another friend Tracy was named “Bishi-Tracy” for a while – which she thought was hilariously cute !
  • NISSAN – Grandma has a Pulsar – probably the first time he ever showed “recognition” in cars, when the same car & colour drove past our house, and he said “Grandma” – he wasn’t even two years old at that stage (I think !)
  • PEUGEOT – my uncle John has an old 505 – and Cameron now says “Peugeot, like John !”
  • PORSCHE – says it as “Porsche 911 Carrera”
  • RENAULT
  • SAAB – only gets this right about 1/4 of the time – always struggles with SAAB for some reason.  Just as well, they’re crap !
  • SMART – he loves the SmartCar “tower” on Kingsway – near freeway exit
  • SUBARU – our sister-in-law (his Auntie) has a Subaru, so all Subaru’s are “Mandy-Subaru”s
  • SUZUKI – sometimes just “Zuki”
  • TOYOTA
  • VOLKSWAGEN – for a while they were all “VW Golfs” – but he knows they’re just VW – and knows of a VW Passat
  • VOLVO

*phew*

There’s a few others too – Pagani Zonda (obviously !) – and Koeniggsegg, Bugatti Veyron – and his amazing love of THE STIG (on Top Gear).

It’s just great fun to see his passion and enthusiasm about cars – and the racing around the house as a V8 – he even does power-slides, and rally-style corners !

And is often asking (in his words) “Daaad, you’re want to play cars with me ?”

The “shape recognition” aspect of it (recognizing car symbols) will help with his numbers and letters when he gets to school – or so I would think ?

Anyway, just wanted to capture some of these thoughts, stories & observations – before he grows up (current age : 3 years 10 months).

Thanks Cameron – and yes, I’ll come and play cars with you !
